CIF- Briefing Session with District School Directorate Hyderabad

The second briefing session on the Curriculum Implementation Framework (CIF) was held at the Elementary School-Hyderabad on the 19th of August 2015. The session is part of the Education & Literacy Department, Government of Sindh's plans to engage the Directorate of School Education for each respective district in Sindh with the notified Sindh Curriculum Implementation Framework.

The Education & Literacy Department was yet again represented by Syed Zakir Ali Shah and Dr. Fouzia Khan along with Mr. Ejaz Shah of the EU. The session addressed D.S.O.s, T.E.O.s and H.M.s from the district and was aimed at enabling the audience to understand their role as key stakeholders in the Curriculum Implementation Framework (CIF).

The speakers drew context for the CIF by discussing the Sindh School Education Standards and Curriculum Act 2014 and its role as a catalyst for education reforms in Sindh. Participants were briefed on the holistic approach of the CIF which spans not just the conventional focus on Content, Pedagogy and Assessment but also includes System Capacity, Schools and Community as part of a paradigm shift to a Practiced Curriculum.

The core functions of the DSE were highlighted as to:

  • Ensure that education program and policy are being effectively carried out
  • Participate in the conduct of instruction and orientation of teachers
  • Liaise with various organizations and community groups in matters affecting education
  • Collect and report all the education statistics of the Region/District
  • Establish an efficient management system on facilities (equipment and instructional material) to support the curriculum implementation

In order to build confidence of the participants on the significance of the initiative, a broad overview of the next steps was also shared to set the tone for future implementation plans. The interactivity of the session enabled collection of valuable feedback from the attendees who shared their concerns and suggestions and unanimously expressed their gratification for this unprecedented initiative. The next sessions will now be held in Larkana, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad respectively.
